and Provocative Therapy Provocative Therapy incorporates the use of reverse psychology and humour into the therapeutic encounter to catalyse cognitive behavioural change. Since discovering this way of communicating with clients, I have been attending training workshops with Farrelly, and with The British Institute of Provocative Therapy (www.provocativetherapy.co.uk) Provocative Therapy training has enabled me how to use my sense of humour in a therapeutically-directed way, to help my clients. I have written
up a short case history,
with the client's images, to show how the direct, and sometimes crude,
dialogue has enabled the client to move from a state of fragmentation
to one of integration. The images the client made are both an illustration
of this, and stand in their own right as an art therapy intervention.
